Brian LaFoy is an Executive Vice President and Principal at Nathan D. Maier Consulting Engineers, Inc. (NDM). In addition to operational responsibilities, he oversees the firm’s Structural Department, Transportation Department, and Construction Services Department. He also serves as an active project manager on a wide range of projects including thoroughfare design, bridge and other structural design and rehabilitation, and design/build projects. Brian has had the opportunity to work on challenging projects throughout his career and continues to have a technical role in his projects. He currently has seven patents pending for his work in structural rehabilitation. Prior to joining NDM over seventeen years ago, Brian worked as a project superintendent and manager in the construction industry building highway interchanges, cable-stayed bridges, dams, and other civil structures.

Brian is a native Texan, born and raised in El Paso. He attended the University of Texas at Austin where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. He later earned his Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering and Applied Mechanics from the University of Texas at Arlington while working full time at NDM. Brian stays actively involved with his Alma Matter and currently serves as an executive member (Vice President of Operations) on the Longhorn Engineering Alumni Delegation Board for the Cockrell School of Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.

In addition to serving TSPE at the state and local levels through several committees, task forces, and events, he volunteers his time to the National Psoriasis Foundation (NPF) where he serves on the local Board of Directors as well as on several National Advisory Boards and is one of twenty-eight national mentors for psoriasis patients. He is also an active member at St. Paul Lutheran Church, serves on the Board of Directors for his homeowner’s association, and serves in a volunteer capacity for several other philanthropic and non-profit events and organizations.

Outside of his professional activities, Brian spends his time playing soccer and ice hockey. He is also an avid snowboarder and wakeboarder. Brian’s true passion is surfing so he spends as much time as he can on the Florida and California coasts. He also enjoys traveling and scuba diving. Brian’s wife Jennifer is also an engineer and principal at NDM and was the state TSPE Young Engineer of the Year in 2012. Together, they live in Plano with their new daughter Bethany, who was born in December, and their two dogs Eli and Edison.
